WILD WORLD OF SCIENCE (ages 10 – 13)
Soar into summer fun with science! Join us for an exploding good time as we delve into the mysteries of chemistry, physics, engineering and biology. This highly interactive program will include games, crafts and activities all designed to help participants uncover the secrets of science.

HOGWARTS TRAVELING SCHOOL (ages 8 – 12)
Calling all magics and muggles to a fun-filled week discovering the secrets learned on the grounds of Hogwarts. We can’t visit Diagon Alley, but we create our own wizardry attire with the help of a little alchemy. Attend a potions class. Learn to play Quidditch (unfortunately, due to Ministry rules we will have to play with all brooms on the ground). Discover the secrets to the Forbidden Forest and the creatures that lurk within. Concoct delectable delights like the house elves did. Remember – on order of the Ministry of Magic – no spells are to be cast by underage wizards until you return to actual grounds of Hogwarts.

MUNSCH AND A BUNCH – EXPLORE CHILDREN’S LITERATURE (ages 8 – 10)
Canadian authors have produced some of the finest children’s books. Learn more about these classics as Delta teacher Corri Kaweski leads a rewarding journey through the works of Robert Munsch, Phoebe Gilman and Roch Carrier. Using a variety of activities including Reader’s Theatre, crafts, writing activities and website explorations participants will learn more about both the books and their authors. Reading, writing and research skills –all three will be emphasized in the exploration of children’s literature.

READING & WRITING CAMP – INTERMEDIATE (entering grades 4 – 7)
Have a student who is struggling with spelling, structure and descriptive writing? Students build skills, confidence, and enjoyment in important reading and writing skills with this fun summer course. Character books, word play, storytelling and writing activities are all part of these outstanding camps full of learning and fun. Delta teacher Tiffany Cherry presents this class.

MATH REFRESHER – PRIMARY (ages 7 – 9)
Does your child need some math reviewing? Over the summer months it is easy for children to lose some of the most basic math concepts that they have been practicing all year. Through an interactive, hands-on approach, students will be re-introduced to these concepts, so that they enter the upcoming school year full of confidence and enthusiasm for Math. Some of the concepts will include: patterns, addition and subtraction strategies and numbers to 100. Delta teacher Stephanie Trafton presents a week-long camp that will provide your child with the review they need to enter the new school year.

MATH REVIEW OR PREVIEW – INTERMEDIATE (entering grades 6 – 8 )
Does your child need to refresh his or her math skills before entering the next grade level or is perhaps looking to preview topics to be introduced in this new grade? If so, this course is designed with you in mind. This program is designed to review or preview basic math concepts found in the intermediate grades. Using an interactive, hands-on approach, Delta teacher Kristin Van Eunen will cover the more challenging math concepts to provide the basis for a good start in September.

JUNIOR AUTHOR’S CREATIVE WRITING Level 1 (ages 10 – 17)
Do you dream of becoming a published writer? This camp is a great place to take your writing dreams to the next level. Join author and professional children’s storyteller, Laura Thomas, aka Agent Story for a week of writing heaven that includes poetry, short stories and script-writing. By the end of this fun and interactive week you will have more tools in your writer’s toolbox, more confidence in yourself as a budding author and an insider’s understanding of the publishing process. No experience necessary, just a love of writing. ESL and special needs students are welcome. This course is a prerequisite for all Junior Authors Level 2 courses.

JUNIOR AUTHOR’S CREATIVE WRITING Level 2 (ages 10-17)
The Short Story – From Idea to Publication. If you are serious about seeing your work in print then this is the course for you. Take your writing and storytelling skills to the next level in this intensive ten hour camp. For two hours each day under the direction of Delta author and professional children’s storyteller, Laura Thomas, aka Agent Story, aspiring writers will journey step by step through the writing process from idea to editing. By the last session participants will have an original, polished short story of no more than 1500 words that is properly formatted and ready to submit to a magazine.
Prerequisite for the course: Junior Authors Creative Writing Course – Level 1 or permission of the instructor.

EXPLORATIONS IN SCIENCE (ages 6 – 9)
Explore the wide world of science in an educational, safe environment filled with all kinds of fun and creative experiments. Each day we will explore a different form of science such as chemistry, earth science, forces and so much more! Come join us for a week of innovative, hands-on, minds-on science fun and learn about all kinds of interesting, stimulating topics. The director of this camp is Ms. D. Lidkea, a Delta teacher with a passion for working with children and science.

BETTER WRITING AND STRONGER SPELLING (ages 9-12)
This summer, students can improve their writing and spelling through fun games, activities, and classroom instruction. This class will provide daily practice looking at ways to come up with better ideas, stronger words, and proper sentences and paragraphs in writing. A two-week program is possible as students in Course 1 and Course 2 will have different information presented, one complimenting the other. Start your school year off in a strong way with one or both of these camps. Teacher Jennifer Blaak again teaches these outstanding academic camps.

MACINTOSH COMPUTER CAMPS
Delta School District implemented a plan beginning in 2009 to equip each elementary school in the district with thirty-two new MacIntosh laptop computers. They are very child friendly computers and come with a number of educational programs pre-loaded on them. Two new youth activity summer camps Macs are Coming Hello, I’m a Mac, have been developed to provide elementary students with the opportunity to work with this exciting new hardware.
HELLO, I’M A MAC! (ages 9 – 12)
Let us introduce you to our new technology! Why not give your child a head start in learning how to maximize the use of our powerful new product, the Mac! Participants will love working with these child friendly computers and a host of fun, preloaded programs. They allow students to easily incorporate music, pictures, graphs, and other material into their own personalized creations. This exposure to leading edge software will be lead by certified teacher Martin Hass who will use a variety of interesting and creative tasks to familiarize students with the laptop and its potential as a learning tool. Whether using the Mac for the first time, or a seasoned veteran, there will be new things to learn for all participants.

Yes, the MacIntosh computers are coming and why not give students an opportunity to work with these very child-friendly new computers? Children will learn to organize their writing and improve their reading, art, music and technology skills while making their very own COMIC BOOK and HIT MUSIC ALBUM! Give your child a head start on the technology they will encounter at school next year through a week of fun-filled hours of ComicLife, Garage Band, PhotoBooth and Inspiration software. Join instructor Martin Hass, a certified teacher and certified technology geek with a huge funny bone, for a week of fun and learning.
